Projects

The many activities of Quota International of Cupertino are perhaps exmeplified best by:

Poinsettia Project: The Club purchases poinsettia plants from a Modesto Nursery and sells them back locally to fund our Service Grant Awards. After a review process, these Awards are given to local and international organizations which directly assist the deaf and hearing impaired as well as disadvantaged women and children.

Children’s Holiday Shopping: This shopping experience for local disadvantaged children was initiated some 17 years ago in coordination with the local elementary school district which identifies the children. For the past 14 years, Cupertino Rotary and Inner Wheel also have participated in this program. Cupertino Quotarians, Rotarians, and friends are given $125 per child whom they take shopping at JCPenney’s. The money is used only for gifts of clothing, toys, etc. for that child, alone. Afterwards, everyone goes to the local YMCA for pizza lunch, Santa’s visit, and gifts for each child.

Spring Baskets Program: This year is the 5th year where we make up spring Baskets for the children of clients of our local community service and referral agency. Without these Baskets, the children would not have any Easter celebration.

Navajo Indian Donations: We help the local Lions Club in gathering donations of clothing, bedding, and small appliances and then packing everything in boxes. These boxes fill a semi-trailer and are driven by Lions to AZ in their on-going annual assistance to this particular Navajo tribe who choose to receive no money from gaming.

Service Grant Awards: We raise money mainly through our Poinsettias Sales particularly to award as service grants to both international and local organizations who address our emphasis on both the deaf and hearing and speech impaired as well as disadvantaged women and children.
In the past year, we contributed internationally through Quota’s Hand-in-Hand program to assist disadvantaged children in Iloilo City, the Philippines and also battered women in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Locally, our monetary service grants were awarded to YWCA Silicon Valley Domestic Violence Department’s Support Network Program, Bill Wilson Center’s Maternity Group Home Program. Jean Weingarten Peninsula Oral School for the Deaf, Hearing Dog Program, and Cupertino Union School District.  Our Hats Off to You celebration of community volunteers raised moneys through a raffle which benefitted West Vallley Community Services.
